. the faa reported the first day of furloughs resulted in delays of more than three hours on arrivals at los angeles - less than that at other airports. "i was delayed from laguardia. we were on the ground for about an hour. they made it up in the air, but we were delayed today." but delays in chicago were spotty, though passengers were bracing for them. "we had a business meeting this morning that we pushed back back an hour but it was smooth sailing from austin." - will you make an adjustment on future flights? "no, i think it's a more scare tactic than anything else." others got that same sense. oklahoma senator tom coburn called the furloughs "a dangerous political stunt," saying that more than $100 million could be saved by using fewer consultants, supplies and less travel, and pointed to the transportation security administration, which has managed to avoid furloughs. "being a flight attendant and working as a flight attendant, i care about safety, and when you cut people out of the tower, that's safety." as of now, the furloughs mean all 47,000 faa employees, including 15 controllers,

air traffic controllers must take one day off a week. the faa said planes will have to take off and land more frequently. that would translate to potential longer lines at the airport. joining me is the spokesperson for sfo. can you give me an idea of how many travelers will be out on every given day or? >> what i can tell you, it's about a 10% of reduction. if i'm an air traffic controller, one of my days out of ten is reduced as the furlough. >> reporter: do you have any idea if this will impact the lines? >> i think where we might see some effect is more from the faa perspective. i don't know if it will affect the lines at the airport. but in terms of flight delays, if there's another airport that has congestion issues or staffing issues, even if we're fined locally, we may experience delays to and from the location. it's very much a nationwide issue. >> reporter: it's a juggling act for you. i think one of the things we can expect, there is a procedure we use and that requires an extra controller. not an issue today but if we have bad weather conditions, we might not be able

. that is good news for anyone flying out at any point today. you talked about these sequestered cuts, the faa says a big lead the air traffic controllers. furlough days are being issued. we actually did see some delays because of those air traffic control furloughs. places like laguardia in new york and l.a. acts. lax at delays at somewhere between one hour and three hours. it did not really have a lot of affect here as at all but anytime you have delays around the country, it has an accordion of fact. that is what they're afraid of. they're thinking today maybe a day will restart the see some delays are around the country. you can see here in the board at sfo, everything was on time. we did not have a delays but that cannot easily change as a day goes on. we're telling people if you're coming to the airport and flying any time in the near future, make sure you call ahead and check the status of your flight. make sure your weather could be delays. a spokesperson is coming out and we are trying to get the interview with him. if we have any issues, we'll pass them along as they come in. >> with
